Needless to say (but I’ll say it anyway) the “Fiscal Cliff” talks stole the show again. COMMODITIES: Is the oil spill set to continue?

Brent crude oil was one of the casualties of the FOMC meeting last night, as the Fed sounded concerned about the recent deterioration in US economic data. Added to that Europe is weak and China also had some disappointing numbers earlier this week. Asia Session: AUD takes a hit from weaker than expected Australian retail sales data

AUDUSD had a jumpy session, underpinned by weak retail sales data out of Australia. Prior to the release of the retail sales data the aussie managed to push through a resistance level around 1.050 against the US dollar, but a poor showing from retailers in November ended the aussie’s rise. Another downward correction in oil?

After falling to around 85.60 in mid-April, WTI crude recovered to above 97.00. However, the black gold has slipped in recent trading sessions on the back of China’s growth concerns and a drop in US core retail sales during April.
