You can use the same User ID and password to switch between MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 4 Mobile platforms. Simply go Tools -> Login and enter your account credentials in MetaTrader 4 Mobile.
What are the system requirements for MetaTrader 4 Mobile?
MetaTrader 4 Mobile SmartPhone edition is for devices that run Windows Mobile 2003 SE or higher.
The MetaTrader 4 Mobile PocketPC edition is for devices that run Windows PocketPC 2002 or higher.
Can I use the MetaTrader platform on my Macintosh computer?
The MetaTrader 4 platform is Windows based as is unable to run on Macintosh-based Operating Systems. Customers using EA Hosting are able to log on to a hosted MetaTrader environment from a Mac computer. Click here to learn more.
I've downloaded the MetaTrader platform. How do I log into my live account and start trading?
Once you have completed an online application and funded your account, you will receive an e-mail with your login name and password. To login, go to File -> Login. Enter your userID and password and choose 'FOREX.com Live Server'.
Where can I obtain my account reports?
To obtain account reports, go to View -> Terminal -> Account History. To save, right-click anywhere and select 'Save as Report'.
What ports do I need to have opened to run MetaTrader 4.
You will need to open port 443 on your firewall to properly run the MetaTrader 4 platform.
Where do I change my password?
To change your password, go to Tools -> Options and then click on the Server tab. Click on the Change tab and follow the change password wizard.
Trading
Does the MetaTrader platform facilitate mini lot (10 K) trading?
Yes you can trade mini lots (10K) using the MetaTrader platform.
Here is the scale that we use for trading lot sizes on Metatrader:
0.10 lots = 10,000 units of base currency: Our "mini" lot size.
1.00 lots – 100,000 of base currency: Our "standard" lot size.
Is hedging automatically enabled on the MetaTrader platform?
Yes, hedging is a trading feature available on the MetaTrader 4 platform.
Do I need to be logged into the platform for automated strategies to trigger?
The MetaTrader 4 terminal must be logged into the trading server for automated strategies to run. Customers using EA Hosting are able to host their EAs in a professional environment. Click here to learn more.
How do I place a trade within the Metatrader 4 platform?
To place a trade, on select Tools -> New Order. Select the symbol of the currency pair you wish to trade, the volume of the trade size and Market Execution for Type. Click Sell or Buy within the Instant Execution section to place the trade.
How do I close an open position?
To close an open position, double-click the position within the Trade section of the platform. Within the Order ticket, click the Close button. You will receive a confirmation of your trade. Placing an opposing trade will not close the original position but will open a new position. This is due to the hedging capabilities on the MetaTrader 4 platform.
How close to the prevailing price can I place stop and limit orders?
Limits and stops must be set at least 1 pips away from the prevailing market price.
Do trailing stops remain active when I turn off my computer?
No, trailing stops are maintained locally on your machine and therefore requires that your MetaTrader 4 platform remain on and connected to the internet. If you disconnect the MetaTrader 4 platform from the system, any open trailing stops will be converted to a hard stop or limit.
What does the "off-quotes" message mean?
The "off-quotes" message in the MetaTrader trading platform may occur when market rate changes from the time the trade is initiated on the platform to the time the request reaches the trading environment. If you still wish to enter the trade, you can use the Order screen to try again. Within the MetaTrader platform, you can also set a tolerance level for all of your trades. To set the deviation setting, go to Tools -> Options. Within the Trade tab, you can select the number of pips difference you are willing to tolerate in the Deviation by Default section.
Charts
How do I fix the "Waiting for Update" message on my charts?
Click on the symbol you wish to view from the Market Watch section of the trading platform and drag it into the chart window.
How can I change the default language?
To change your language preference, to go View -> Languages. Select your default language. You made need to restart the MetaTrader 4 application for the changes to take effect.
How do I zoom in or out of a chart?
To zoom in or out on a chart, right-click on the chart and select Zoom In or Zoom Out. You can also use the keyboard shortcut (Shift +) to Zoom in and (Shift - ) to Zoom out.
How do I change my chart type?
From the top Menu bar, select Charts. Choose your chart type preference.
How can I create Trend Lines and other Line Studies?
To add a trend line or line study, go to Insert -> Lines and choose a line study.
Line studies can by adjusted on the chart by dragging the white point to the desired area.
How do I view the time frame toolbar?
To view the time frame toolbar, go to View -> Toolbars and make sure that Periodicity is checked. You will then see the following buttons in the new toolbar:
M1 = 1 minute chart
M5 = 5 minute chart
M15 = 15 minute chart
M30 = 30 minute chart
H1 = 1 hour chart
H4 = 4 hour chart
D1 = daily chart
W1 = weekly chart
MN = monthly chart
What time zone is used for charts in MetaTrader 4 and can I change it to my local time?
Charts are in Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and cannot be changed.
Are there hours when the MetaTrader system is unavailable?
Maintenance is performed on the MetaTrader servers daily from 5:30 to 5:45 pm ET. The MetaTrader system is taken offline Saturdays at 12am ET for approximately 20 minutes in order to perform weekly maintenance. You will not be able to access the live or demo environments at that time.
