GBPUSD Lifts on Dollar Weakness, Dow Lags Ahead of Earnings
Key Events
- Trump validates DXY weakness, positioning the greenback at depressed levels ahead of today’s FOMC meeting, while GBPUSD holds near its 2025 high and the 1.38 resistance
- Fed rate-hold expectations remain dominant amid Fed independence risks, keeping a bearish tone on the dollar and a bullish one across markets, particularly precious metals
- The exponential rise in precious metals highlights ongoing defensiveness against U.S. dollar weakness, global political frictions, and earnings uncertainty, dragging the Dow behind gains in the Nasdaq and S&P 500
- Tesla, Microsoft, and Meta earnings remain in focus today following the revival of AI-driven sentiment across markets
Markets are closely watching the steep levels reached by the U.S. Dollar Index and major currency pairs, including EURUSD and GBPUSD, as the DXY tests 4-year lows amid Trump’s lack of concern, Fed independence risks, and FX intervention concerns strengthening the yen against the dollar.
The sharp decline in the dollar has lifted EURUSD above the 1.20 mark, pushed GBPUSD toward the 1.38 resistance, and driven gold toward the 5,300 level, keeping markets on edge ahead of the FOMC meeting and mega-cap earnings–driven volatility following the U.S. session close.

Key earnings from Tesla and Microsoft are in focus today, as AI-related optimism continues to drive both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq higher. In contrast, the Dow remains under pressure following negative earnings from UnitedHealth near the 49,000 mark. This divergence keeps key technical levels and confirmations in focus, especially as markets remain highly sensitive to geopolitical tariff headlines and earnings-driven volatility, pushing gold near record levels around 5,200.
Tesla earnings expectations continue to face competitive risks from BYD, while Microsoft earnings remain supported by increasing AI and Copilot adoption across global institutions.
Primary Trends and Key Levels in Focus
GBPUSD Outlook: 3-Day Time Frame – Log Scale

From a longer-term perspective, GBPUSD is challenging the upper boundary of the consolidation range that has extended between July 2023 and January 2026, just below the 1.38 mark. This structure sits above a broader trend extending from the 2007 highs, positioning the pair toward a longer-term bullish bias should the 1.38 level clear.
The next levels in focus following a confirmed breakout stand near 1.40 and 1.4250, aligning with the 2021 highs as initial upside targets.
On the downside, should the DXY reassert bullish momentum by reclaiming the 97 and 98 levels, GBPUSD may rotate back into consolidation, exposing support levels at 1.35, 1.33, and 1.31 before another directional breakout materializes.
While Trump’s lack of concern continues to fuel extended drawdown risks for the dollar, contrarian indicators amid extreme market sentiment may signal the potential for a short-term rebound, pending confirmation from the upcoming FOMC tone.
