Gold Analysis: XAU/USD Rebounds Amid Rising Geopolitical Tensions
The week begins with gold regaining a consistent bullish bias, posting gains of more than 2% during the session, driven by a rise in market risk perception following the recent escalation of political tensions in Venezuela over the weekend. Growing uncertainty surrounding potential U.S. military involvement appears to be strengthening short-term demand for safe-haven assets, a factor that could sustain steady demand for gold as this uncertain environment persists in the coming trading sessions.
Geopolitical Risk Intensifies
The capture of President Nicolás Maduro over the weekend by the United States has generated a significant increase in political uncertainty across Latin America, heightening risk sentiment in financial markets. This situation should not be viewed solely as an isolated international political event, but rather as a potential trigger for broader regional tensions between the United States and Latin America. Venezuela maintains strategic ties to sensitive sectors such as the energy industry and to non-Western powers, increasing the likelihood that rising tensions could lead to secondary effects, including greater volatility in financial assets amid heightened speculation.
Within this new short-term scenario, gold once again stands out as a key asset, continuing to be regarded as one of the most relevant global safe havens. Historically, during periods of geopolitical escalation with military implications, markets tend to seek capital protection. Events such as the 2022 invasion of Ukraine or the 2014 Crimea crisis demonstrated how, amid heightened uncertainty, gold often reinforces its role as a safe-haven asset. This pattern may be repeating itself following the recent rise in tensions in Latin America after the capture of Venezuela’s president.
It is also important to note that market confidence indicators are not at their strongest levels. The Fear & Greed Index remains around 48 points, reflecting a neutral confidence environment. The absence of a clear optimistic signal may be reducing the appeal of risk assets while reinforcing short-term demand for safe havens such as gold.

Taken together, the recent escalation in geopolitical tensions combined with instability in confidence indicators appears to be fostering a broader risk-off environment across financial markets. This backdrop favors steady flows toward assets perceived as safer, such as gold. As long as this generalized sense of caution persists, demand for the precious metal is likely to remain supported in the coming sessions, with gold continuing to be viewed as a temporary store of value amid global geopolitical uncertainty.
Gold Technical Outlook
Source: StoneX, Tradingview
- Dominant bullish trend: Since late August 2025, gold has maintained a solid bullish bias, with no meaningful selling corrections emerging that would threaten the current bullish structure. The medium-term bullish trendline remains the most relevant technical formation for the sessions ahead. At present, buying pressure has begun to re-emerge, potentially supporting renewed attempts to reach new all-time highs in upcoming sessions.
- RSI: The RSI has resumed consistent oscillations above the neutral 50 level, indicating that buying momentum remains dominant in the short term. If the indicator continues to post higher readings, it could further reinforce bullish pressure in gold price movements over the coming sessions.
- MACD: The MACD shows a bullish crossover, with the histogram moving above the neutral zero line, suggesting that short-term moving average momentum has shifted from bearish to bullish territory. This behavior reinforces the signal of bullish dominance in recent XAU/USD price action.
Key Levels to Watch:
- $4,546 – Crucial resistance: This level corresponds to gold’s all-time highs and represents the most relevant short-term upside barrier. A sustained move above this area could activate a more aggressive bullish bias and pave the way for a broader upward trend in the sessions ahead.
- $4,300 – Nearby barrier: A key neutrality zone aligned with former all-time highs. It could act as an important reference level in the event of short-term bearish corrections.
- $4,200 – Critical support: A level near the 50-period simple moving average, currently the most important downside barrier to monitor. Selling pressure toward this area could put the existing bullish structure at risk and open the door to a new bearish bias during the early part of 2026.
