Bitcoin Analysis: What's Next for BTC After the Fed Meeting?

By :   Julian Pineda CFA, CMT , Market Analyst

One of the most relevant themes surrounding Bitcoin in the short term continues to be the persistent lack of direction that has started to dominate market activity. As recent price action shows, BTC has moved by only around 0.5% over the last three trading sessions, a relatively limited variation when compared to the 3.0% daily swings that were observed just a few weeks ago. This behavior highlights how caution has become an increasingly important part of the market environment.

For now, the neutral price action appears to reflect both a lack of conviction in demand and the market's anticipation of the Federal Reserve's policy decision. Against a backdrop of uncertainty surrounding U.S. monetary policy, investors seem willing to maintain a more cautious stance before significantly increasing their exposure to crypto markets. Under this scenario, if expectations of a more aggressive central bank regain momentum in the coming months, this phase of indecision or even a more pronounced weakness could continue to play an important role in Bitcoin's performance over the coming weeks.

Can a Hawkish Fed Reduce Confidence?

The first point worth highlighting is that demand activity around Bitcoin has shown signs of slowing since the beginning of the week. This may reflect that the cryptocurrency is currently struggling to position itself as a particularly attractive alternative for investors or, alternatively, that market participants are waiting for greater clarity regarding macroeconomic conditions before rebuilding confidence in digital assets.

This dynamic can also be observed in the recent performance of Bitcoin ETFs, where capital inflows and outflows have remained relatively subdued over the last few sessions. As of October 26, inflows were only slightly above $110 million, a figure that remains significantly below the levels observed several weeks ago, when daily inflows were frequently exceeding $660 million.

What is particularly important is that this slowdown became increasingly evident during a week dominated by the Federal Reserve's monetary policy decision, suggesting that part of the market has preferred to stay on the sidelines until there is greater clarity regarding the path the institution may choose over the coming months. This caution is relevant because a high-interest-rate environment typically translates into higher financing costs and tighter liquidity conditions across financial markets, a dynamic that can weigh on demand for risk-oriented assets such as Bitcoin.

In addition, throughout much of 2026, a relatively clear relationship has also emerged between Bitcoin's performance and the strength of the U.S. dollar. On several occasions, periods of recovery in DXY, the index that measures the dollar's strength against its major peers, have been accompanied by bouts of caution or weakness within the crypto market.

What stands out is that this latest phase of caution around Bitcoin is once again coinciding with a recovery in DXY during recent sessions. This reinforces the idea that cryptocurrency remains sensitive to both monetary policy expectations and the relative attractiveness of more stable markets, such as dollar-denominated assets.

It is also important to note that, according to CME Group probabilities, markets continue to assign more than a 90% chance that the Fed will leave the benchmark rate unchanged at 4.00% during today's meeting.

However, the main focus remains on the comments that follow the decision. Investors will be looking for signals that help determine whether the Federal Reserve intends to maintain a relatively stable stance or begins to adopt a more aggressive tone for the months ahead. If the latter scenario gains traction, a stronger dollar and the prospect of rates remaining elevated for longer could continue to limit confidence across risk-sensitive markets such as Bitcoin, potentially maintaining a more relevant phase of indecision or weakness in the cryptocurrency over the short term.

Conversely, if the Fed adopts a more neutral tone and reinforces expectations of policy stability, part of the pressure observed around BTC in recent weeks could begin to fade, allowing confidence to gradually recover across the market in the weeks ahead.

Does Confidence Remain Limited?

It is also worth monitoring the behavior of the Fear & Greed Index for cryptocurrencies. The indicator currently remains close to 45 points, holding firmly within the neutral zone and showing little change in recent sessions.

This reading suggests that market confidence remains relatively limited and that a sufficiently strong recovery in optimism around cryptocurrencies has yet to materialize.

The evolution of this indicator remains important because it functions as a gauge of market sentiment and risk appetite across the crypto sector. As long as the index fails to return consistently to greed territory, it may continue signaling that the market lacks the conditions necessary to sustain a more meaningful recovery in demand.

As a result, while this environment of caution remains in place, a phase of indecision or even moderate weakness could continue to be a relevant feature of Bitcoin's behavior over the medium term.

Bitcoin Technical Forecast

  • Neutrality continues to gain relevance: Although Bitcoin continues to maintain an important long-term bullish trendline that served as the dominant technical reference for months, recent price action has increasingly reflected a consolidation phase within that broader structure. Over the last several weeks, the lack of direction has become more evident, a situation that could continue favoring the formation of a more established trading range on the daily chart while price remains unable to approach key technical barriers.

  • RSI: The RSI has started to trade slightly below the 50 neutral level, reflecting that selling momentum has gained some relevance during recent sessions. As long as this behavior remains in place, it could continue supporting a short-term bearish bias within BTC price action.

  • TRIX: A somewhat different picture can be observed in the TRIX indicator, whose line remains close to the 0 neutral level. This reading suggests that long-term exponential moving averages continue to reflect a relatively balanced environment and supports the view that a phase of neutrality remains a relevant feature of the broader market outlook.

Key Levels:

  • 86,800 – Key Resistance: An important high observed during recent weeks and the main upside barrier on the chart. A sustained move above this level could restore momentum to the bullish bias and support a more consistent reactivation of the broader uptrend that currently remains on hold.

  • 81,000 – Near-Term Barrier: A level that aligns with recent retracement activity and develops near the 50-period simple moving average. It currently stands as the most important area of neutrality on the daily chart and, as long as price remains close to this level, it could continue supporting a phase of indecision and a more relevant trading range over the coming weeks.

  • 76,500 – Key Support: The most important support zone observed in recent months and the main downside barrier on the chart. Price action returning toward this level could place the dominant bullish structure at risk, signal a more meaningful shift in market dynamics, and open the door to a more consistent bearish bias in the weeks ahead.
