Euro definition

Euro

The currency of the Eurozone.

It came into being on January 1, 1999, at which point only 11 EU members used the currency – Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, the Republic of Ireland, and Spain. However, as the EU has expanded, so has the adoption of the currency. Now, 21 of the 27 member states are part of the eurozone.
