DAX Holds Ground as War Fears Drive Gold and Oil Spikes

The DAX is holding key support at the 200 EMA after rebounding from recent lows, showing signs of a short-term recovery. Despite Middle East conflict and rare metal shortages, equities remain firm as traders focus on Fed and BoJ decisions. Oil remains volatile, gold rallies to $3,440/oz, and platinum hits 3-year highs. Crypto holds strong as Ethereum derivatives overtake Bitcoin volumes.

DAX Holds Ground as War Fears Drive Gold and Oil Spikes

🌍 Geopolitics & Market Reaction

  • Global markets remained resilient despite escalating military tensions between Israel and Iran. Investors largely dismissed the threat of broader conflict or oil supply disruptions via the Strait of Hormuz.
  • Light Crude Oil prices initially surged 9% on Friday, then settled with a 6% gain, while at today’s open a slight decline is noticed. Gold peaked at $3,440/oz today and appears to be taking a breather.
  • The U.S. dollar gained modestly (+0.6%) but is giving back at todays open, and equities in Asia (Japan, China, South Korea) advanced modestly.
  • Analysts warn of a geopolitical risk premium on energy markets as the conflict intensifies, with Iran and Israel exchanging strikes and the U.S.–Iran nuclear talks cancelled.
  • Houthi forces resumed attacks on Israel and Red Sea shipping, the latest news comes from attacks out of Yemen, adding further pressure to energy supply chains.

Germany - DAX Technical Analysis

20250616 DAX

The Germany 40 (DAX) CFD – 4H chart shows a modest recovery attempt, trading at 23,576.0 (unchanged) after bouncing from the lower Bollinger Band and the 200 EMA (23,613). The broader structure reflects a corrective pullback from the recent high near 24,490, with signs of short-term stabilization.

🔍 Technical Breakdown:

  • Bollinger Bands:
    • Price recently touched the lower Bollinger Band and rebounded — a classic mean reversion attempt.
    • Bands are still moderately wide, indicating active volatility, but are starting to compress again.
  • EMA Structure:
    • Price is trading below the 20, 50, and 100 EMAs, but finding support at the 200 EMA.
    • The 20 EMA (23,893) now acts as immediate resistance.
  • Trendline & Structure:
    • No clear trendline breach, but momentum has broken since failing to push beyond 24,490 resistance.

📊 Momentum Indicators:

  • RSI (14): At 41.49, slightly bearish but stabilizing — potential for a reversal if it climbs above 50.
  • Stochastic RSI: Bullish crossover in progress (33.59 / 68.35), supporting short-term upside potential.

📌 Key Levels:

Resistance:

  • 🔺 23,893–24,000: Cluster of moving average resistances (20 EMA and mid-Bollinger Band)
  • 🔵 24,490: Major resistance; breakout zone from recent highs

Support:

  • 🟥 23,613: 200 EMA – key technical support
  • 🟠 23,300–23,000: Next structure level from April
  • 🔵 22,800: Previous breakout base

⚠️ Outlook:

The DAX is currently in a range-bound recovery after a pullback. The bounce from the 200 EMA and lower Bollinger Band suggests potential for further upside toward 23,900, but confirmation requires reclaiming the 20 EMA. If rejected again, the index may retest 23,300.

📈 Bias: Neutral-to-bullish (short-term bounce)
📉 Watch for a confirmed break above 23,900 or failure at EMA resistance for next move confirmation.

The DAX briefly reclaimed the 26,000 level as investors used post-election weakness as an opportunity to rotate into industrial, healthcare and energy-transition leaders. Strong gains in Bayer, Siemens and Siemens Energy helped offset weakness in consumer and AI-related growth stocks. With bond yields easing and the dollar weakening after the US midterm elections, investors are increasingly focusing on earnings quality, visible demand and infrastructure-related growth themes.
