The FTSE had a choppy day of trading, opening on a high note but trading down 0.27% towards the close.

The pound experiences an early morning resurgence, basking in the positive comments from the chief EU Brexit negotiator about a potential Brexit deal. Meanwhile the FTSE comes under pressure and is trading down 0.2%.


Markets were both sides of the Atlantic traded lower as trade tariff jitters and concerns over the Fed rising interest rates weighed on equities.


The FTSE started the day in the red, trading lower as the pound strengthened against the dollar and the euro.

While the US indices are all heading for record high levels, the FTSE is telling a different story, down 0.71% on the dayfollowing an unexpected strengthening of the pound.
