It’s a big week for the British Pound, along with the USD, JPY and Euro, as each economy has a central bank rate decision and two of those banks may be looking to hike rates in the coming months.

The British Pound has held up well, outperforming the Euro for the past two weeks. And now the dominant trends in both GBP/USD and GBP/JPY have shown pullbacks and support tests.

It was a big week for markets and hope rules the day as the ceasefire announcement created a gap-down in the USD that still hasn’t been recovered.

In the currency market it seems as though we’re in another situation where USD/JPY is doing the driving, and the single currency may just be along for the ride.

UK assets are in focus, but for all the wrong reasons as calls for Keir Starmer to resign grows louder. So far, though, the GBP/USD has held its own rather well and the FTSE 100 has remained near record levels. Perhaps that’s only because of the ongoing risk rally across global markets, where stock indices are finding renewed support and the dollar coming under pressure. When you look at some of the pound crosses, that’s where you see the relative weakness.

Sterling faces a pivotal BoE decision as traders focus on the MPC vote split, with GBP/USD stretched and EUR/GBP probing potential reversal levels.

EUR/USD re-tested a major level on the chart as EUR/JPY jumped up to another fresh ATH. Even EUR/GBP showed Euro strength as the single currency set a tone of recovery.

GBP/USD held a higher-low last week and GBP/JPY set a fresh yearly high. EUR/GBP has pulled back and there’s a big area of support from prior resistance sitting a little lower.

The British Pound was in a dire state just two weeks ago but GBP/USD has perked up since the failed run at 1.3000. GBP/JPY has been stronger, however, as the pair pushes up to a fresh monthly high.

The euro strengthened after upbeat ZEW data and reduced ECB cut expectations, while dollar weakness ahead of the Fed kept EUR/GBP supported as the British pound lagged.

British pound COT data shows shorts unwinding. GBP/USD forms bullish setup while EUR/GBP risks a bear flag breakdown.
A quick look at the charts suggests the British pound might be nearing a burst of energy, and that could be beneficial for GBP/USD bulls or EUR/GBP bears.
